01

Concept Development & FEED

Front End Engineering Design studies that define project scope, cost, and schedule with the accuracy needed for investment decisions.

Our FEED studies provide operators and investors with a robust technical basis for project sanctioning. We take projects from process concept through a defined engineering package that can include the process design basis, mass and energy balances, equipment lists, interfaces, and preliminary cost estimate.

FEEC has delivered studies for onshore production facilities, offshore platforms, MOPU topsides, FPSOs, and early production systems. For offshore and floating facilities, the scope can include equipment weight and space allocation for topsides criteria and structural interfaces. Assumptions and design margins are matched to the applicable codes, operating envelope, project stage, and quality of available data.

Standards: API, ASME, ISO, NORSOK, local regulatory requirements.

Detailed Process Engineering

Controlled process-engineering deliverables for procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning.

From FEED approval to IFC, FEEC develops the process documents and interdisciplinary inputs defined in the agreed scope. We work with AutoCAD and industry-standard tools to produce controlled deliverables that meet project specifications and applicable standards.

Our principals have delivered detailed process-engineering packages for facilities ranging from skid-mounted early production units to multi-train gas plants. The scope can include 3D-model review and systematic vendor-document review so procured equipment remains aligned with the process design intent.

Process Simulation

Steady-state and dynamic process modelling — equipment sizing, relief load studies, ESD transient analysis, and operational troubleshooting.

Process simulation is central to everything we do. Our consultants have extensive experience building and validating steady-state and dynamic simulation models for upstream and midstream facilities using industry-standard process simulators.

Where a steady-state model answers sizing questions, dynamic simulation answers operational ones — emergency shutdown transients, control valve sizing, slug flow behaviour, and depressuring analysis. We use dynamic simulation to validate ESD logic, confirm relief system behaviour under worst-case transient conditions, and support control system design. Simulation models are delivered with full source files, not just reports, so clients can run their own sensitivity cases.

Standards: API 520, API 521, API 526, API 14E, NORSOK P-001.

Project & Construction Management

End-to-end project and construction management for fast-track oil & gas campaigns across six continents.

Our project management capability spans all phases — from project setup and engineering scope definition, through procurement and contracting, to construction and handover. Our project management principals bring 25+ years of field experience across six continents, with a track record of managing international contractors, complex supply chains, and multi-discipline engineering teams from concept through operational handover.

We understand the pressures of fast-track projects and the commercial realities of operating budgets. Our approach is pragmatic — focused on delivering to schedule and budget without creating unnecessary risk. We integrate directly with client teams, act as owner's engineer when required, and maintain clear cost and schedule accountability throughout.

Commissioning & Start-up

Field commissioning and start-up support for new facilities, plus Pre-Startup Safety Reviews and operating procedure development.

Commissioning is where engineering decisions become operational reality. Our consultants provide onsite commissioning support for new facilities, ensuring the handover from construction to operations is safe, systematic, and well-documented. We develop start-up procedures that reflect how the plant actually behaves — not generic templates copied from another project.

We provide Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) as a formal deliverable, confirming that startup-critical hazard actions are resolved or implemented, safety systems are verified, and operating procedures are in place before hydrocarbon introduction. Applicability and approval criteria are defined against the host jurisdiction, operator management system, and project requirements.

Standards: API RP 14C, IEC 61511 (SIS commissioning and proof test requirements), client commissioning management system procedures, applicable NORSOK operational standards.

Brownfield & Debottlenecking

Capacity optimisation, revamp studies, and modification engineering for existing facilities — with the practical perspective of engineers who have operated them.

Brownfield engineering starts with the actual operating envelope, facility history, interfaces, and shutdown constraints. FEEC applies direct operator-side experience to challenge assumptions and identify what can be changed safely and practically.

The scope can cover capacity debottlenecking, process revamps, life-extension inputs, modification engineering, and Management of Change support. Options are compared using documented constraints, implementation risks, and cost-benefit considerations.

Independent Review & Due Diligence

Independent engineering assessments for asset acquisition, project sanction, and lender requirements — delivered by senior engineers with operator and EPC experience on both sides of the table.

When the stakes are high, an independent second opinion is not a luxury — it is a discipline requirement. We provide technical due diligence assessments for upstream and midstream asset acquisitions, reviewing process design, production assumptions, equipment condition, and operating cost basis against industry norms and our own field experience.

For project sanctioning, we offer independent peer review of FEED packages — identifying technical risks, challenging assumptions, and confirming that the design basis is fit for purpose before capital is committed. Our team has sat on both sides of these reviews: as project engineers whose work has been reviewed, and as independent assessors doing the reviewing. We understand what a credible technical review looks like and what it is trying to achieve.

Standards: API RP 14C, API 521, NORSOK Z-013, SPE PRMS (reserves and resources assessments), applicable lender and operator technical standards.

Cost Estimation & Risk Analysis

AACE Class 3–5 capital cost estimates, OPEX modelling, and contingency analysis to underpin project sanction and investment decisions.

A cost estimate is only as good as the basis behind it. We build capital cost estimates to defined AACE International classes — from Class 5 order-of-magnitude screening through Class 3 estimates firm enough to support a funding decision — each issued with a transparent Basis of Estimate that states exactly what is included, what is excluded, and where the numbers come from.

Our estimating combines factored equipment costs, benchmarked unit rates, and quantity take-offs from the engineering deliverables, tightened as the design matures. We quantify uncertainty rather than bury it: cost risk analysis and probabilistic (Monte Carlo) contingency setting give a P50/P90 range instead of a single deterministic figure, so decision-makers can see the confidence behind the number. The same discipline supports OPEX modelling and CAPEX/OPEX reasonableness reviews for acquisition and lender due diligence.

Standards: AACE 18R-97 (cost estimate classification), AACE 17R-97, AACE 34R-05 (basis of estimate), AACE 42R-08 (contingency determination), client cost estimating procedures.
